When my daughter was small, we engaged in imaginative play. She would take on the persona of various creatures—a dog, a bear, or another animal—and would perceive the world through that being's eyes. She dove deep into emulating the emotions and sensations of the character she chose to embody.
This sparked a train of thought within me—how would it truly feel to step into another's shoes? How does the world appear from someone else's perspective? What does a criminal perceive, or a politician, an entrepreneur, or an artist? What do their emotions, their internal world, feel like? How does the internal turmoil of a tyrant compare to the emotional experience of a deeply empathetic person?
I believe this is a contemplation we should all delve into. If we can pause, step back, and perceive the world through another's lens, we might find answers to countless queries.
Let's learn from our children.
